‘The Dukes of Hazzard’ Jumps 150 Feet Over Kentucky Fountain

Stuntman Jumps General Lee Over Fountain Square at Somernites Cruise Event

The recent Somernites Cruise event held on June 28 in Somerset, KY, witnessed an exhilarating stunt as stuntman Raymond Kohn drove a replica of the iconic “Dukes of Hazzard” car, the General Lee, over the town’s fountain square. The jaw-dropping jump, spanning 150 feet in front of a crowd comprising fans and locals, was a nod to the popular TV series that aired from 1979 to 1985. The event drew a whopping 35,000 spectators, showing immense support for the daring feat.

This thrilling spectacle was part of the Somernites Cruises’ 25th annual classic car cruise, a recurring event that takes place between April and October each year.

Following the successful jump, Somernites Cruise Executive Director Keith Floyd expressed relief, stating, “It’s done. Praise the Lord, everybody’s safe. [Kohn] is doing great.”

Reflecting on the risky maneuver, Kohn shared his thoughts, saying, “You get one shot at it. This is a very scary situation. You’re putting yourself in a life-and-death situation on purpose, and I just need to focus on one thing, hitting that ramp, and that’s it. I’ve hit that ramp a lot of times, so…we have a pretty good idea of how the car is going to behave.”

Moreover, post-jump, stars from “The Dukes of Hazzard” engaged with fans, signing autographs and posing for photos. Actors John Schneider, known for his role as Bo Duke, and Byron Cherry, who portrayed Coy Duke, shared their excitement about the event and interacted with the audience.

Speaking about the show’s enduring legacy and impact across generations, Cherry remarked, “I have little kids out there, 3, 4, 5 years old … [who] know the show better than I know it. It’s just a blessing to be a part of history.”
