‘The Thing’ Actor Was 69

T.K. Carter, the beloved actor known for his roles in the horror classic “The Thing” and the iconic television series “Punky Brewster,” has passed away at the age of 69. The news of his death was confirmed by the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department after deputies responded to a call about an unresponsive male in Duarte, Calif. While the cause of death has not been disclosed, authorities have ruled out foul play.

Carter began his acting career in 1976 with a role on the NBC series “Police Woman” and went on to make guest appearances on popular shows like “Quincy, M.E.” and “Good Times” throughout the 1970s. However, it was his breakout role as Naul, the roller-skating cook, in John Carpenter’s 1982 horror film “The Thing” that solidified his place in Hollywood. He also found success on the small screen with a recurring role as Mike Fulton on “Punky Brewster” from 1985 to 1986.

In addition to his memorable roles in film and television, Carter portrayed Clarence Hull on “The Sinbad Show” from 1993 to 1994 and lent his voice to the character Monstar Nawt in the 1996 animated film “Space Jam.” Born Thomas Kent Carter on December 18, 1956, in New York City, he was raised in the San Gabriel Valley of Southern California.

Throughout his career, Carter amassed an impressive list of credits in both film and television, including appearances in “Runaway Train,” “The Steve Harvey Show,” “Good Morning, Miss Bliss,” “Rush Hour,” “Everybody Hates Chris,” and many more. His recent work included roles in films like “The Way Back” and “Fake Friends,” as well as appearances on TV shows like “Dave” and “The Company You Keep.”
