Toledo freshman pole vaulter Eva Moran tragically passed away at the young age of 19 after a car accident in Ohio. The University of Toledo announced the heartbreaking news on Saturday, revealing that Eva was pronounced dead at Marion General Hospital following the crash. According to reports, she was ejected from her vehicle during the accident, which involved three cars.
Andrea Grove-McDonough, the director of cross country and track and field at Toledo, expressed deep sadness over Eva’s passing, describing her as a remarkable young woman with a positive attitude, determination, and kindness that left a lasting impact on the program. Eva’s energy, love for her teammates, and eagerness to learn and improve were qualities that endeared her to everyone she crossed paths with.
The accident occurred on May 29 on Round 309 in Claridon Township, as per the Ohio State Highway Patrol (OSHP). Eva, who was traveling eastbound, failed to maintain a safe distance and collided with another car before being hit by a third vehicle. The crash is still under investigation, and details are being gathered to understand the sequence of events that led to this tragic incident.
Eva, a native of Caledonia, Ohio, had shown promise in her athletic career, setting a new career-best in pole vaulting during the Mid-American Conference outdoor championships. Her achievements in high school, where she excelled in basketball, cross country, and track at River Valley High School, paved the way for her to continue her passion at the collegiate level.
Before enrolling at the University of Toledo, Eva set records and earned accolades in pole vaulting, showcasing her talent and dedication to the sport. She was a health sciences major at Toledo and had high hopes for her future both athletically and academically.
