Trader Joe’s to open new Denver location in Platt Park
Trader Joe’s Plans Unique Store Concept in Denver’s Platt Park Neighborhood
Trader Joe’s is looking to shake things up with a new store in Denver’s Platt Park neighborhood that will stand out from its other locations in the region.
The popular grocery chain has applied for a retail liquor license for a proposed store at the intersection of Pearl Street and Louisiana Avenue, as indicated by a notice posted at the location.
Unlike its standalone structures in other Denver stores, Trader Joe’s intends to occupy retail space on the ground floor of a five-story apartment building that is set to be developed by the Denver-based Kentro Group, led by the Balafas brothers.
The site at 567 E. Louisiana Ave., currently housing a closed 7-Eleven, will be transformed into a mixed-use development spanning 1.29 acres, with 170 apartments on the upper floors and a 13,500-square-foot retail unit on the ground floor for Trader Joe’s.
The project will also feature additional commercial and amenity space, along with 300 parking spaces, some of which will be situated behind the ground-floor commercial area and the rest underground.
Co-founder Jimmy Balafas of Kentro Group shared that they are aiming to commence construction in 2026.
Trader Joe’s expansion in the region includes recent store openings in Westminster and upcoming plans for a location in The Shops at Northfield in Denver’s Central Park neighborhood.
