Trump eyes huge triumphal arch in DC for America’s 250th birthday

President Trump has unveiled plans for a new addition to Washington, D.C.’s skyline – a massive triumphal arch to mark the nation’s 250th birthday. The arch, designed by architect Nicolas Leo Charbonneau, would be constructed across the Potomac River from the Lincoln Memorial, featuring intricate carvings, eagles, and a golden winged angel.

The idea for the arch came from an article by architecture critic Catesby Leigh, calling for a temporary structure to celebrate the anniversary of the Declaration of Independence. The arch would be situated on undeveloped land between the Lincoln Memorial and Arlington National Cemetery, adding a grandiose element to the city’s public architecture.

While details on the cost and timeline for construction remain unclear, Trump has already embarked on other projects to leave his mark on the capital. Construction is underway on a 90,000-square foot structure to house a ballroom larger than the executive residence of the White House. Additionally, Trump has overseen the installation of flag poles and undertaken various design renovations within the White House.

In addition to the triumphal arch, Trump has plans for a “Garden of Heroes” and has issued orders to maintain a classical aesthetic in federal buildings. The president’s vision for Washington, D.C. includes a mix of grand architectural projects and renovations that reflect his signature style.
