Trump says Chicago are calling for action after recent crime wave in Democrat city
President Donald Trump has weighed in on the recent surge of crime in Chicago, with at least eight teens shot and multiple police officers attacked during a riot in the city’s downtown area. Trump took to Truth Social to express his frustration, stating that Chicagoans are calling for his intervention in the situation.
The chaos unfolded near State and Randolph streets following a Christmas tree lighting ceremony, with reports of 300 juveniles rioting and assaulting officers with mace and stun guns. City Alderman Brian Hopkins confirmed the violent nature of the incident, with one officer hospitalized and six children, ranging from 13 to 17 years old, sustaining gunshot wounds. Tragically, a 14-year-old boy succumbed to his injuries at the hospital, while an 18-year-old man also suffered gunshot wounds.
This wave of violence comes on the heels of a disturbing incident where a man with a history of criminal offenses allegedly set a woman on fire on a Chicago train. Lawrence Reed, 50, faces charges of committing a terrorist attack or violence against a mass transportation system. Despite his extensive criminal record, which includes felony aggravated arson and multiple battery charges, Reed was released back into the community with an ankle monitor by a lenient judge.
Chicago Mayor Brandon Johnson downplayed the train attack as an “isolated incident,” but the city continues to grapple with escalating crime rates. The situation has prompted calls for federal government intervention, with Trump echoing the sentiments of Chicagoans who are desperate for a resolution to the ongoing violence. The refusal of Governor Pritzker and Mayor Johnson to accept federal assistance has further exacerbated tensions in the city.
As Chicago reels from these tragic events, the need for effective strategies to address crime and ensure public safety has never been more urgent. The city’s residents are looking to their leaders for solutions, while external voices like Trump’s highlight the severity of the situation and the necessity for swift action.
