Trump sending 400 Texas National Guard troops to Illinois as anti-ICE protests continue to rage: Pritzker
President Trump has made the decision to deploy 400 Texas National Guard troops to Illinois and other states, including Oregon, as anti-ICE protests continue to escalate. Illinois Governor JB Pritzker expressed his disapproval of the plan, criticizing Trump for not coordinating or discussing the deployment with state officials.
In a tweet, Governor Pritzker referred to Trump’s actions as an “invasion” and called on Americans to speak up against it. He accused the President of using the National Guard as “political props” and urged Texas Governor Abbott to withdraw support for the deployment.
The unrest in Illinois stems from US Immigration and Customs Enforcement’s “Operation Midway Blitz,” which targets criminal illegal immigrants in Chicago. This operation has faced opposition from local Democrats, including Mayor Brandon Johnson, but protests have only intensified in response.
Recently, protesters in Chicago have resorted to violence, using vehicles to attack ICE agents. Border Patrol agents patrolling the South Side of Chicago were forced to open fire on a woman who was armed and part of an angry mob attempting to attack the officers. The situation has been described as a “war zone” by DHS Secretary Kristi Noem, who also claimed that Chicago authorities have been blocking federal law enforcement from using public restrooms in the city.
The deployment of National Guard troops to Illinois comes at a time of heightened tension and civil unrest in the region. The clashes between protesters and federal agents continue to escalate, with multiple arrests near ICE facilities in the Chicago area. Despite the pushback from local officials, the situation remains volatile and unresolved.
