Tua Tagovailoa gives clear verdict on Jaylen Wright’s stance amid De’Von Achane’s injury

Tua Tagovailoa, the quarterback for the Miami Dolphins, has high praise for running back Jaylen Wright and believes he has the potential to challenge De’Von Achane for carries in the team. After Wright’s impressive performance against the Jets, where he rushed for 107 yards and a touchdown on 24 attempts, Tagovailoa emphasized that this was not a fluke.

Tagovailoa mentioned during a press conference, “Wright doing what he’s doing, I don’t think that should be a surprise to any of us if you’ve seen his college tape. You give someone like him that many touches, I think he’s going to be competing with Achane.”

Wright’s journey to success hasn’t been easy, as he suffered a knee injury during preseason practices, which led to minor surgery and dropped him down the depth chart behind rookie Ollie Gordon II. Despite these setbacks, Wright persevered and finally got his chance to shine in Week 14 against the Jets.

Dolphins coach Mike McDaniel expressed his excitement for Wright’s breakthrough performance, stating, “To see him flourish, that’s what we were counting on as a team, that’s what I was counting on, and that’s why all the guys really get excited for him in the game, after the game, to get his first 100-yard game.”

The Dolphins’ running game saw a resurgence with Wright’s contribution, as the team collectively rushed for 239 yards, a season high. Miami is currently on a four-game winning streak and will face the Steelers in their upcoming game on Monday.

McDaniel highlighted the resilience and determination Wright showed during his difficult start to the season, and it’s clear that the coaching staff and team are excited to see his continued development. With Wright’s recent success, the Dolphins’ backfield has become even more competitive, providing them with depth and versatility in their offensive strategy.

As the Dolphins continue their winning streak and push for a playoff spot, Wright’s emergence as a viable option in the running game could prove to be a pivotal factor in their success moving forward. With Tagovailoa’s confidence in Wright’s abilities, it will be interesting to see how the young running back continues to make an impact for the team in the remaining games of the season.
