Two arrested in brutal Cincinnati brawl; one was freed on bail despite serious charges
A recent incident in Cincinnati has shocked the community, as a man and a woman were arrested in connection with a brutal brawl that left two people seriously injured. Montianez Merriweather, 34, and Dekyra Vernon, 24, were taken into custody following the violent attack against a white couple, which was captured on video and went viral online.
It is still unclear what exact roles Merriweather and Vernon played in the assault, but they have been charged with felonious assault and aggravated riot. Interestingly, Merriweather had been indicted earlier in the month on charges related to receiving stolen property and weapons violations. Despite this, he was out on bond at the time of the incident, having only paid 10% of the $4,000 bail amount.
The Hamilton County Prosecutor’s Office has also issued three outstanding warrants for additional arrests in connection with the brawl. Cincinnati Police Chief Teresa Theetge announced that a total of five people have been charged in relation to the attack, which took place outside the nightclub LoVe and sparked public outrage.
In a disturbing video of the incident, one woman is seen being knocked unconscious by the mob, with blood visible on the pavement. The violence has drawn condemnation from public figures, including Ohio gubernatorial candidate Vivek Ramaswamy and former senator JD Vance, who described the attack as “unconscionable” and called for the perpetrators to face serious consequences.
The incident serves as a stark reminder of the need for accountability and justice in cases of senseless violence. The community is left reeling from the shocking events that unfolded, as authorities work to bring all those responsible to justice.
