An Unhinged Doomsdayer Terrorizes Neighbors in Gramercy Park
A resident of East 21st St. in Gramercy Park, William Zimmerman, has been causing chaos and distress for his neighbors with his bizarre and threatening behavior. The situation has escalated to the point where his landlord is seeking legal action to have him removed from the building.
Zimmerman, 34, has a history of erratic behavior spanning over a decade, but recent incidents have pushed his neighbors to their breaking point. According to a lawsuit filed in Manhattan Supreme Court, Zimmerman has been caught spitting and urinating in the hallways, making threats against other tenants, stealing packages, and using racial and antisemitic slurs. He has also been accused of blasting pornography from his window, ranting about Jews, and screaming about the end of the world.

The landlord claims Zimmerman has caused $75,000 worth of damage to the building, including a water leak from his bathroom that has damaged apartments below. Zimmerman has also been reported playing disturbing audio and videos that sound like people being murdered, followed by claims of impending doom.
Multiple tenants have expressed their desire to break their leases due to Zimmerman’s behavior, with one former tenant stating, “We put up with a lot for a very, very long time. I felt I had no other choice but to move.”
Despite numerous complaints and incidents, Zimmerman has never faced criminal charges. The landlord has been attempting to evict Zimmerman and his father, who first leased the apartment in 1968, since 2012. Previous legal filings have cited Zimmerman’s mental health issues as a contributing factor to his behavior.
The current lawsuit seeks monetary damages and an injunction to remove Zimmerman from the premises. Despite attempts to reach out for comment, neither Zimmerman nor his father could be reached for a statement.
The situation remains tense as neighbors are left to deal with the ongoing disturbances caused by Zimmerman’s troubling behavior.
