‘Vanished’ Review: Kaley Cuoco Thriller Disappoints
Kaley Cuoco has ventured into the world of international thrillers with her latest project, the MGM+ series “Vanished.” Following her successful tenure on “The Big Bang Theory” and the hit show “The Flight Attendant,” Cuoco takes on the role of Alice Monroe, an archaeologist who finds herself in a dangerous situation when her boyfriend, Tom Parker, mysteriously disappears during a romantic getaway to Arles.
The four-episode series, directed by Barnaby Thompson and written by Preston Thompson and David Hilton, follows Alice as she embarks on a quest to uncover the truth behind Tom’s disappearance. Teaming up with French journalist Hélène, played by Karin Viard, Alice navigates the streets of Marseille in search of answers. As the plot unfolds, viewers are taken on a visual tour of the vibrant city, from its rocky seaside to its graffiti-lined public squares.
While Cuoco’s performance as Alice is filled with her signature sarcastic charm, the series struggles to find a balance between drama and comedy. The rushed conclusion leaves little room for the exploration of the sensational reveals, ultimately leaving viewers wanting more depth and development in the storyline.
Despite its shortcomings, “Vanished” offers a unique perspective on the mystery genre, with Claflin’s character, Tom, taking on a more nostalgic role in flashbacks that reveal the couple’s past. The series also touches on important themes such as humanitarian work and the dangers of human trafficking, adding layers to the overall narrative.
Overall, “Vanished” provides an entertaining watch for fans of thrillers and mystery dramas. Cuoco’s portrayal of Alice adds a fresh perspective to the genre, and the on-location shooting in Marseille adds an authentic touch to the storytelling. Whether you’re a fan of Cuoco’s previous work or simply enjoy a good mystery, “Vanished” is worth checking out on MGM+.
All four episodes of “Vanished” are now available for streaming on MGM+.
