Will Arnett to Star Opposite Kristen Stewart in Amazon Prime Video Series

Will Arnett has been announced as the latest addition to the cast of the upcoming Amazon Prime Video limited series centered around NASA astronaut Sally Ride and the Challenger shuttle disaster. Arnett will star alongside Kristen Stewart, who is set to portray Ride in the series inspired by Meredith E. Bagby’s book “The New Guys.”

Officially picked up by Amazon in March, the show, titled “The Challenger,” delves into the events leading up to the tragic Challenger disaster and the subsequent investigation. The series will explore the inner workings of NASA as the 1986 Rogers Commission delves into the circumstances surrounding the disaster. The personal journey of Sally Ride and her fellow Astronaut Class of ’78 will be a focal point of the narrative, culminating in Ride’s groundbreaking achievement as the first American woman in space.

In the series, Will Arnett will take on the role of George Abbey, a key NASA official known as the architect of the modern astronaut corps. Arnett, known for his work in television shows like “The Madison,” “The Morning Show,” and “BoJack Horseman,” as well as films such as “The LEGO Movie” and “Despicable Me,” brings a wealth of experience to the project.

The series is being created by Maggie Cohn, who will also serve as executive producer and showrunner. Kyra Sedgwick and Valerie Stadler will executive produce for Big Swing Productions, where the project was initially developed. Other executive producers include Bagby, Stewart, Dylan Meyer, and Maggie McLean under their Nevermind production banner, as well as Darryl Frank and Justin Falvey for Amblin Television. James Hawes, known for his work on “Slow Horses” and “Black Mirror,” will direct and executive produce the series.

With an impressive lineup of talent both in front of and behind the camera, “The Challenger” promises to be a gripping and insightful exploration of a pivotal moment in space history. Stay tuned for more updates on this highly anticipated series.
