WWE Pays Tribute to Hulk Hogan on ‘Smackdown’
The wrestling world is mourning the loss of a true icon this week as WWE paid tribute to the legendary Hulk Hogan on a recent episode of “SmackDown.” Hogan, whose real name is Terry Bollea, passed away at the age of 71 on Thursday, leaving behind a legacy that will never be forgotten.
During the tribute on “SmackDown,” a touching opening segment featured a multitude of WWE stars and personnel gathered at the top of the entrance ramp. The likes of Cody Rhodes, Jacob Fatu, Jimmy Hart, and Sgt. Slaughter were all present to honor the memory of Hogan. The crowd erupted in chants of “Hogan” as WWE chief content officer Paul “Triple H” Levesque delivered a heartfelt speech, reminiscing about Hogan’s impact on the wrestling world.
Levesque spoke of Hogan as a global icon who inspired millions of fans around the world. He credited Hogan for helping to elevate WWE to its current status as a powerhouse in the industry. A moment of silence was observed as a ten bell salute rang throughout the arena, followed by a poignant highlight reel of Hogan’s illustrious career.
Hogan’s influence on WWE cannot be overstated. He was a key figure during the company’s transition from a regional promotion to a national phenomenon in the 1980s. As the face of WWE, Hogan headlined multiple WrestleMania events and held the WWE Heavyweight Championship six times in his career. His famous catchphrase, “train, say your prayers, and eat your vitamins,” endeared him to fans of all ages.
In addition to his WWE tenure, Hogan also made a mark in other wrestling promotions, including WCW where he portrayed the villainous Hollywood Hulk Hogan as a member of the New World Order. His list of memorable opponents reads like a who’s who of wrestling legends, including Andre the Giant, Roddy Piper, “Macho Man” Randy Savage, and Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson.
The news of Hogan’s passing came as a shock to the wrestling community. According to the Clearwater Police Department in Florida, Hogan succumbed to cardiac arrest on Thursday morning. Despite receiving treatment from rescue crews and being rushed to the hospital, Hogan was pronounced dead.
The wrestling world will never be the same without the presence of Hulk Hogan, but his legacy will continue to live on through the countless fans he inspired and the unforgettable moments he created in the ring. Rest in peace, Hulkster.
