Chicago police detectives made a breakthrough in a Red Line assault case by uncovering a Facebook video of the attack, leading to the arrest of Mary Webb, 22, and Alaiyah King, 20. The two suspects were already facing charges for assaulting a CTA passenger in January.

The incident took place on February 16 when the victim witnessed a group fighting on the train. Webb and King mistakenly believed she was recording the altercation and confronted her. Webb initiated the physical assault by punching the victim, with King joining in. The victim lost her purse during the struggle and was ultimately pushed off the train onto the 69th Street platform.

On the platform, King and Webb continued their attack, with Webb using pepper spray on the victim. The victim sought treatment for her injuries at St. Bernard Hospital. Surveillance footage from the CTA captured part of the incident, but it was the Facebook video that provided the crucial evidence for the case.

After detectives recognized Webb and King in the video, the victim identified them in photo arrays. Judge Shauna Boliker ordered the women to be detained on charges of aggravated battery of a transit passenger. Their previous assault cases from January are still pending.
