3x convicted robber gets six years for violently attacking two women in CTA pedway

Man with Prior Robbery Convictions Sentenced for Violent Attack on Two Women in CTA Pedway

A man with a history of robbery convictions has been sentenced for a violent attack on two women in a CTA pedway downtown, where both victims suffered concussions. Tremaine Giles, 27, pleaded guilty to robbery before Judge Carol Howard and received a six-year prison sentence for the January 24, 2025, attack inside the pedway at Jackson.

The incident occurred late at night as two Lakeview women, ages 22 and 25, were walking through the underground corridor connecting the Blue Line and Red Line stations. Giles blocked their path, preventing them from passing, and then assaulted the younger woman by trying to steal her backpack while his accomplices prevented the second woman from intervening.

During the attack, Giles physically assaulted both women, causing one to suffer hearing loss and both to be diagnosed with concussions. The older woman was slapped across the face, grabbed by the hair, and thrown into a wall before Giles fled with the 25-year-old’s purse.

Giles was identified in CTA surveillance footage after an anonymous tipster recognized him, leading to his arrest. This was Giles’ third violent attack, with previous robbery convictions including one where he targeted a victim over 60 in Bridgeview. He had also been convicted of robbery as a juvenile.

With good behavior, Giles could be released as early as May 1, 2028. The case serves as a reminder of the importance of public vigilance and the consequences of repeat offenses.
