Republicans Plan To Gut Medicaid Funding Then Blame The States When People Lose Healthcare

Republicans’ Deceptive Plan to Cut Medicaid Funding
It seems that Republicans have concocted a scheme to avoid taking responsibility for gutting Medicaid, and it all boils down to one disturbing belief: they think the American people are stupid. This is not a statement made in jest, but a serious observation based on the recent actions of some GOP lawmakers.
Rep. Austin Scott (R-GA) recently appeared on Fox News to unveil their plan, which involves manipulating the Federal Medical Assistance Percentage (FMAP) to cut Medicaid funding. Scott explained, “When the Dems expanded Medicaid under the Affordable Care Act, they made that percentage match 90/10. So the federal government is paying 90% of the Medicaid expansion.”
He continued, “What we have talked about is moving that 90% level of the expansion back towards the more traditional levels of 50 to approximately 80%. Instead of the 90/10 split, where 90% is federal and 10% is state match, we are going to ask the states to pick up and pay some additional percentage of the Medicaid costs.”
On the surface, this may seem like a reasonable adjustment. However, the reality is much more insidious. By slashing federal funding for Medicaid and shifting the burden to states, Republicans are effectively setting governors up to fail. Many states simply cannot afford to cover the additional costs, which will inevitably lead to people being kicked off Medicaid.
This deceptive plan puts vulnerable individuals at risk of losing crucial healthcare coverage, all while Republicans attempt to shift the blame onto states for the cuts. It is a blatant attempt to avoid responsibility for their harmful actions and shows a complete disregard for the well-being of the American people.
As citizens, we must remain vigilant and hold our lawmakers accountable for their actions. Medicaid is a lifeline for millions of Americans, and any attempt to undermine this vital program should not go unnoticed. It is up to us to speak out against these unjust measures and fight for the healthcare rights of all individuals.
