A Community Safety Liaison Attacked and Robbed in Gompers Park
A shocking incident occurred in Gompers Park on the Northwest Side as a community safety liaison was brutally beaten and robbed by a group of individuals. The victim, who was patrolling the park on the afternoon of May 12, was video recording people in his capacity as a safety liaison.
According to prosecutors, Adolfo Agreda, 41, who had been drinking all day, took offense to being filmed by the victim. Agreda allegedly confessed to being part of a group that physically assaulted the 50-year-old safety advocate, using fists and legs to attack him until he fell to the ground.
During the assault, the group attempted to snatch the victim’s phone from his hand, with Agreda reportedly stealing a silver-plated necklace from the safety liaison’s neck. When police arrived at the scene, they found the victim severely injured and bleeding from multiple areas.
The victim identified Agreda as one of the attackers, leading to his arrest on charges of robbery and misdemeanor battery. A judge ordered Agreda to be detained following the incident.
