Boy, 17, shot – possibly by Citi Bike-riding gunman – hours after 2 other teens hurt in gun violence: cops

Teen Shot Outside Bronx Housing Development
On Thursday night, a 17-year-old boy was shot outside a Bronx housing development, possibly by a gunman riding a Citi Bike, according to police. The incident took place at NYCHA’s Forest Houses on Trinity Avenue near East 165th Street in Longwood, where the teen was hit in the hip just before 10 p.m. He was rushed to Harlem Hospital and is currently in stable condition.
The suspect fled the scene southbound on Trinity Avenue, potentially using a Citi Bike as a getaway vehicle. This incident occurred only hours after two other 17-year-old boys were shot and wounded in the Mount Hope neighborhood, where they were seemingly innocent bystanders caught in the crossfire.
One of the teens was shot in the right arm, while the other was struck in the neck. Both victims were taken to Columbia University Irving Medical Center and are in stable condition. Sources suggest that neither of the boys was the intended target of the shooter.
The mother of the boy shot in the arm expressed her relief that her son survived the incident without severe injuries. She mentioned feeling nervous about the violence in the area and stated her intentions to keep her son indoors for his safety.
The recent surge in youth violence in New York City, as highlighted by NYPD Commissioner Jessica Tisch, has raised concerns about public safety and the impact of laws such as “Raise the Age.” The community is urged to work together to address the root causes of violence and ensure the safety of all residents, especially the youth.
