Westinghouse pursuing US nuclear expansion with 10 large reactors after Trump orders: report

Nuclear Equipment Supplier Westinghouse in Talks to Deploy 10 Large Reactors

Nuclear equipment supplier Westinghouse is currently in discussions with US officials and industry partners regarding the deployment of 10 large reactors, as reported by the Financial Times. The company’s CEO mentioned that these talks are in response to presidential executive orders.

President Trump’s executive orders, issued on May 23, have directed the government to streamline regulations and fast-track licenses for reactors and power plants, aiming to reduce the licensing process from several years to just 18 months.

Dan Sumner, Westinghouse’s interim chief executive, expressed confidence in the company’s ability to fulfill the president’s agenda given their approved reactor design, established supply chain, and recent experience in constructing two AP1000 reactors in Georgia.

Sumner also mentioned ongoing engagement with the administration, particularly with the loan programs office, emphasizing the significance of financing for the model’s deployment.

As of now, Westinghouse has not provided comments outside of regular business hours.
