80 dogs rescued from horrid Brooklyn home after owner dies
More than 80 neglected dogs were found in a deplorable condition in a Brooklyn home following the death of their elderly owner. The distressing discovery was made after a 911 call was made reporting the death of one of the elderly sisters residing in a residence on 66th Street in Mill Basin.
Upon arrival, responders found the lifeless body of a 73-year-old woman surrounded by a large number of malnourished and sickly dogs. The animals showed signs of severe neglect, with one of them even in the process of giving birth when animal rescuers arrived at the scene. The Animal Care Centers of NYC, in collaboration with the ASPCA, worked together to remove the dogs from the filthy home.
Photos released by the shelter depicted the dogs with matted fur living in appalling conditions. Neighbors described the house as a disturbing and repulsive place, emitting a strong odor due to the large number of animals residing inside. The stench was so overpowering that it often led to calls being made to the authorities.
Neighbors recounted instances where the police had attempted to gain access to the property, but were unsuccessful in their efforts. The lack of electricity in the house meant that the elderly sisters had no air conditioning during the recent heatwave, forcing them to navigate the dark premises with flashlights at night.
The exact cause of the woman’s death remains unknown at this time. The Animal Care Centers of NYC expressed their gratitude for the outpouring of support from the community as they strive to provide proper care for the rescued dogs and find them suitable homes.
The heartbreaking situation highlights the importance of proper care and attention for animals, as well as the need for vigilant community members to report instances of neglect or abuse. The dogs rescued from the Brooklyn home now have a chance at a better life, thanks to the efforts of dedicated animal welfare organizations and compassionate individuals.
