CJ ENM Debuts AI Animation ‘Cat Biggie’ as Part of New AI Strategy

Korean entertainment giant CJ ENM is making a bold move into the world of artificial intelligence, unveiling a groundbreaking AI content strategy alongside the premiere of its first fully AI-generated animation series, “Cat Biggie,” at an industry event in Seoul.

The company, which is celebrating its 30th anniversary this year, recently hosted the 2025 CJ ENM Culture Talk titled “K-Content Meets AI: How AI Technology is Transforming the Future of the K-Content Industry” at its Sangam studio. During the event, executives outlined their plans to revolutionize content creation through their proprietary AI technology.

CJ ENM’s Chief Strategy Officer, Shin Keun-sup, highlighted the company’s commitment to integrating AI across the entire content value chain, including planning, production, distribution, and marketing. This approach aims to expand AI content production across various genres and formats while securing next-generation intellectual property.

The company showcased two key AI systems currently in use in its production workflows. The Cinematic AI system is tailored for narrative content like dramas and films, seamlessly integrating various media elements to ensure a consistent visual output. The AI Script system functions as an AI agent for IP discovery, analyzing consumer demand and market trends to identify promising properties and suggest suitable genres and media formats.

“Cat Biggie,” the first fully AI-generated animation series produced in-house by CJ ENM, premiered at the event. The series follows the story of a cat who unexpectedly becomes a father to a baby chick and consists of 30 two-minute episodes. Produced by a team of just six specialists over five months, the series showcases the capabilities of AI in content planning and character development.

Baek Hyun-jung, head of AI business and production at CJ ENM, explained that the key challenge in producing “Cat Biggie” was controlling and expressing the dynamic movements unique to animation. The team utilized the Cinematic AI tool to convert characters into 3D data and train the production system accordingly, resulting in a high level of completeness in the final output.

The efficiency gains achieved in the production of “Cat Biggie” are significant, with typical 5-minute 3D animations requiring three to four months of production time. The series is set to launch globally on YouTube in July, marking CJ ENM’s foray into AI-generated content.

Looking ahead, CJ ENM plans to expand its AI productions into films and dramas within the year, positioning itself as a global AI studio through team expansion and creator development programs.

The company’s AI initiative comes at a time when the entertainment industry is grappling with the creative possibilities and regulatory challenges of artificial intelligence. Sang-Hyeok Im, a partner at SHIN & KIM LLC, emphasized the importance of clear industry guidelines, legal frameworks for copyright and data protection, and dedicated government support for the field.

CJ ENM’s entertainment division has been instrumental in the global expansion of Korean culture, producing acclaimed content such as “Queen of Tears,” the popular “I Can See Your Voice” competition series, and award-winning musicals like “Kinky Boots.” With three major studios and the Korean streaming platform TVING under its belt, CJ ENM is poised to lead the way in AI-driven content creation.
