James Corden-Backed U.K. Studio Project Loses Main Investor
A new studio project in the U.K. backed by Fulwell Entertainment, the company known for producing “The Late Late Show With James Corden,” has hit a roadblock as a major investor, Cain International, has pulled out of the Crown Works Studios project in the north of England. The reasons for Cain International’s decision remain undisclosed.
The Crown Works Studios, announced last year, are planned to be constructed on the banks of Sunderland’s River Wear with the aim of generating thousands of job opportunities in the region. The project was anticipated to create around 8,000 jobs and cover an extensive area of 1.6 million square feet.
While the U.K. government has pledged £25 million ($34 million) towards the project and the local authority has committed £120 million ($164 million), there is still a substantial funding gap to be filled. Fulwell Entertainment, the driving force behind the project, has expressed its commitment to collaborating with the council to secure additional private funding to supplement the government’s financial support.
Following a recent merger with LeBron James’ SpringHill Company in February, Fulwell Entertainment now includes partners such as James Corden, Ben Winston, Leo Pearlman, Ben Turner, Gabe Turner, LeBron James, and Maverick Carter. The umbrella company, Fulwell Entertainment, also encompasses Jesse Collins Entertainment and has offices in Los Angeles, New York, London, and Sunderland, U.K. The company specializes in a wide range of content production including unscripted shows, documentaries, live events, scripted TV and film, branded content, and commercials.
Despite the setback caused by the withdrawal of Cain International, Fulwell Entertainment remains determined to see the Crown Works Studios project come to fruition and contribute to the growth of the entertainment industry in the region. It is hoped that with continued efforts and support from various stakeholders, the dream of establishing world-class production studios in Sunderland will become a reality.
