Stephen Colbert’s Next Move Revealed After The Late Show Ends

Stephen Colbert is not leaving the world of late-night television just yet, despite the cancellation of his show, The Late Show. Reports from Vulture indicate that Colbert, 61, has landed a guest role on the CBS series Elsbeth, where he will play the role of a late-night talk show host.

In this new role, Colbert will portray the host of a late-night talk show called Way Late with Scotty Bristol. Production for this guest spot has already begun in New York City, with the episode likely planned before the announcement of The Late Show‘s cancellation on July 17.

Interestingly, Colbert had expressed his desire to appear on Elsbeth during an interview with the show’s star, Wendell Pierce, earlier this year. Pierce had responded positively, hinting that he could make it happen. This collaboration comes at a time when Colbert is preparing for the end of his own show next year.

During the July 17 episode of The Late Show, Colbert broke the news to his audience, revealing that the network had decided to end the show in May 2026. The announcement was met with disappointment from viewers, with Colbert acknowledging their feelings and expressing gratitude to CBS and his loyal audience for their support over the years.

In a recent episode of The Late Show on July 28, Colbert humorously discussed his future career plans with podcast hosts Bowen Yang and Matt Rogers. Joking about venturing into podcasting, Colbert sought advice from the duo, who playfully warned him that they might get bumped off the charts if he decides to start his own podcast.

While Colbert’s journey on The Late Show may be coming to an end, his transition to Elsbeth and potential podcasting ventures show that the comedian and host is not slowing down anytime soon. Fans can look forward to seeing Colbert in a new light as he explores different avenues within the entertainment industry.
