Husband of Telemundo beauty queen stole $1.6M from influencer: suit
Telemundo Star’s Husband Accused of Stealing $1.6 Million from Latino Fitness Influencer
Recently, a civil theft lawsuit claimed that Ricardo Casanova, the husband of Telemundo host and former Puerto Rico beauty queen Aleyda Ortiz, allegedly embezzled $1.6 million from popular Latino fitness influencer Alejandro Chabán.
Casanova, who worked as Chabán’s financial consultant, is accused of misappropriating corporate funds from 2017 until his removal in 2024, according to the lawsuit filed in Miami federal court on July 30. The suit alleges that Casanova made unauthorized transfers and withdrawals of company money, disguising them as excessive compensation.
Attorney Miranda Soto, representing Chabán, stated that the lawsuit is based on Florida’s Civil Theft Statute, which allows for triple damages in proven theft cases. Soto emphasized that Casanova breached his fiduciary duty and trust by taking funds he was not entitled to over several years.
The case has garnered significant media attention, given Chabán’s standing as a wellness advocate and Ortiz’s role as a television personality. Ortiz, a former beauty pageant winner, has not publicly addressed the lawsuit.
Chabán, known for his transformation from an overweight child to a health and fitness advocate, has authored best-selling books and founded a nutrition and wellness brand. His public persona combines entertainment with a focus on physical and emotional well-being, catering to Latino consumers in the US and internationally.

The legal battle underscores the importance of safeguarding business interests and upholding ethical standards in financial dealings, especially within high-profile partnerships.
