An unidentified flying object has crashed and exploded in Poland’s east
WARSAW, Poland — An unidentified flying object crashed into a cornfield and exploded in eastern Poland early Wednesday, as reported by the country’s news agency PAP.
Reports of the crash came in around 2 a.m., with local police discovering burned metal and plastic debris near the village of Osiny. Fortunately, no injuries were reported, although some houses had windows shattered due to the explosion.
Poland’s Armed Forces Operational Command confirmed that there were no airspace violations from neighboring Ukraine or Belarus during the incident.
Initially thought to be caused by an old engine part with a propeller, Defense Minister Wladyslaw Kosiniak-Kamysz later suggested that the object was likely a drone, with ongoing analysis to determine its purpose.
A team of investigators, including both civilian and military personnel, is currently examining the crash site, said Lublin District Prosecutor Grzegorz Trusiewicz.
“We have a lot of manpower, we have the army to help us. I hope that we will be able to finish the operation by the evening,” Trusiewicz stated.
In recent years, there have been several intrusions into Polish airspace following Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, causing concern in both the European Union and NATO member states, highlighting the proximity of the ongoing conflict.
