You Can Now Buy a Used Car on Amazon
Amazon is expanding its online auto sales reach by partnering with Hertz to offer certified pre-owned vehicles in four U.S. cities: Dallas, Houston, Los Angeles, and Seattle. Months after launching its new car-buying platform, Amazon is now collaborating with Hertz to provide customers with a wide range of brands, including Ford, Toyota, Chevrolet, and Nissan.
In a press release, Hertz announced that customers in the four launch markets can browse cars at Hertz Car Sales locations within a 75-mile radius, complete the purchase online, and pick up their vehicle. Financing options will also be available directly through the platform, streamlining the online car buying process.
Global head of Amazon Autos, Fan Jin, expressed excitement about the collaboration, stating, “We’re excited for Hertz Car Sales to join the hundreds of franchised dealers in our store, bringing thousands of additional vehicles for customers to choose from.”
Hertz plans to expand the program to 45 locations nationwide, aiming to increase visibility in the auto sales market where its brand may not be as well known compared to its rental services.
Amazon’s automotive strategy is further expanded through this partnership with Hertz. Amazon Autos, launched in December, initially offered new cars through a collaboration with Hyundai. The platform has now expanded to include used and certified pre-owned vehicles from Hyundai dealers in Los Angeles, with plans for further expansion.
The trend towards online car buying is growing in the industry, with automakers offering pre-ordering options and third-party companies like Amazon providing end-to-end purchase experiences for customers. Amazon’s platform allows users to browse cars, value trade-ins, arrange financing, and schedule pickup all within the Amazon site.
With more than 8 million orders placed on Amazon daily in the U.S., the familiarity and convenience of buying a car on Amazon may appeal to customers looking for a seamless online shopping experience.
