Houston Police Officer Ashley Gonzalez fired over video of ‘deeply disturbing’ racist social media rant

Houston Police Officer Ashley Gonzalez was fired on Friday after a racist social media rant went viral, prompting swift action from officials. The video, which Gonzalez shared on Instagram, featured her spewing 25 racial slurs in a 2-minute-long tirade against “black people” from inside her car. The hateful outburst was described as “deeply disturbing” by authorities.

In a statement released on Friday, Houston Police Department announced Gonzalez’s termination, stating that she was no longer an employee of the department. The department emphasized that they hold every officer to the highest standards of integrity and conduct and will not tolerate such behavior.

Gonzalez, who had joined the force in January 2024, expressed her hatred towards black people in the video and even threatened to arrest any black person at a call she was dispatched to. The video was shared by Grizzy’s Hood News and quickly gained attention online.

Following the discovery of the video, Gonzalez was relieved of duty and an investigation was launched to verify its authenticity. Houston Police Chief J. Noe Diaz, Jr. condemned her behavior as abhorrent, disgusting, and entirely unacceptable, stating that it has no place in law enforcement or the community.

Despite being fired, Gonzalez has the legal right to appeal the decision. However, Houston Police officials are confident that their case will be upheld in court. Gonzalez, who served in the US Marine Corps from 2019 to 2023, could still pursue opportunities as an officer for another department due to her Texas Peace Officer certification.

Houston Mayor John Whitmire commended the department for taking swift action against Gonzalez, emphasizing that her actions do not reflect the values of the city or the police department. He reiterated a zero-tolerance policy for racism in his administration and urged all employees to report such behavior immediately.

The incident involving Gonzalez serves as a reminder of the importance of upholding human rights and respect for others in the community. It highlights the need for accountability and swift action against discriminatory behavior within law enforcement agencies.
