Starbucks, Car Toys close at Sixth and Broadway in Denver

Starbucks and Car Toys Close Doors at Sixth Avenue and Broadway Shopping Center

Starbucks and Car Toys both closed their doors at the shopping center located at Sixth Avenue and Broadway on Wednesday. Starbucks made the decision to close all non-drive-thru locations, according to JLL broker Jeff Feldman. The space at 575 Lincoln St., previously occupied by Starbucks, is now available for lease. Feldman highlighted the location’s visibility, proximity to various neighborhoods, and heavy traffic as appealing factors for potential tenants.

On the other hand, the future of Car Toys remains uncertain. The car electronics and audio retailer, based in Washington, filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy and plans to sell 35 of its 47 stores in Colorado, Texas, Washington, and Oregon. Seven of Car Toys’ 10 stores in Colorado have already found buyers, while the stores in Boulder, Parker, and along Broadway in Denver have closed as the company could not find buyers for them.

Car Toys had been a tenant at the Broadway Central retail center since at least 1999. Northpond Partners, the owner of Broadway Central, declined to comment on the closures. The real estate investor purchased the property last year for $12.2 million and also acquired a corner retail property in RiNo for $17 million.

Despite the closures, Broadway Central will welcome a new tenant as Cava prepares to take over the former Pizzeria Locale space. The changing landscape reflects the evolving retail environment in the area.
