NYC straphanger pummel woman who confronted him over smoking
A disturbing incident unfolded on a Bronx train when a 64-year-old woman was viciously attacked by a fellow passenger for calling him out on smoking illegally. The violent encounter took place on a northbound No. 2 train at the 149th Street-Grand Concourse station around 1:30 a.m. on July 26. The assailant, described as a bald, goateed man, began smoking a cigarette in the train car, prompting the victim to ask him to extinguish it.
In response to her request, the smoker unleashed a barrage of punches on the defenseless woman, causing her to sustain minor injuries. The victim received medical attention at the scene, while the perpetrator fled on foot, evading capture by authorities. The suspect, who stands approximately 5-foot-11, was last seen wearing blue jeans and beige sneakers.
The New York City Police Department (NYPD) has released surveillance footage of the attacker, showing him casually walking through the subway car and engaging in gestures that suggest he was conversing with someone. The authorities are seeking the public’s assistance in identifying and locating the individual responsible for this heinous assault.
