Texas man arrested for allegedly threatening to decapitate Trump staffer, slaughter entire family

A Texas man was taken into custody last Wednesday for making terrifying threats against a White House staffer, including decapitation and harm to their family. Thomas Austria Crouse from Austin was arrested after leaving a series of disturbing voicemails to an unidentified Trump staffer on August 25th, as reported by the US Attorney’s Office for the Western District of Texas.

In the voicemails, Crouse allegedly threatened to find the staffer and cut off their head before carrying out violence against their entire family. The nature of the calls prompted an FBI investigation due to the specific references to the staffer’s position.

Crouse was quickly identified as the caller and agreed to stop leaving threatening messages during an interview with federal agents on August 26th. However, he resumed his threatening behavior shortly after, leaving five more voicemails instructing the staffer to take their own life. The authorities acted swiftly, arresting Crouse on August 27th to put an end to the alarming three-day ordeal.

The criminal complaint against Crouse includes charges for transmitting threatening communications across state lines, which could result in a maximum sentence of five years in prison if convicted. The FBI, US Secret Service, and Capitol Police are continuing their investigation into the case.

Threats against members of President Trump’s administration have been prevalent since his election victory. Just weeks after his win, several cabinet nominees and administration appointees received bomb threats at their homes. In another incident, former FBI Director James Comey sparked a Secret Service investigation after posting a cryptic message on Instagram that some interpreted as a threat against Trump. In August, a man from Pennsylvania was arrested for threatening the president and expressing concerns about the country’s direction.

The safety and security of government officials and their families remain a top priority as law enforcement agencies work to address and prevent such threats.
