5 officers shot, 3 fatally, while serving warrant in Pennsylvania: Officials

Five law enforcement officers were tragically shot, with three of them losing their lives, in a devastating incident that took place in York County, Pennsylvania. The officers were carrying out a warrant in North Codorus Township when the shooting occurred, as confirmed by law enforcement officials briefed on the investigation.

The shooter was confronted and fatally shot by police, according to Pennsylvania State Police Commissioner Colonel Christopher Paris, who assured the public that there is no longer a threat to safety. Two officers are currently in critical but stable condition and are receiving treatment at Wellspan York Hospital.

During a press briefing on Wednesday evening, Colonel Paris expressed his condolences, stating, “There are simply no words that I can offer to assuage the grief that this community has experienced and unfortunately will continue to occur. The grief will be unbearable, but we will bear it.”

The Pennsylvania State Police are leading the investigation into the shooting, which is believed to have stemmed from a domestic-related case that the officers were following up on from the previous day. Due to the ongoing nature of the investigation, many details are being withheld at this time. The names of the officers involved and their respective departments have not been disclosed, with Colonel Paris only confirming that they were five law enforcement officers in York County.

Pennsylvania Governor Josh Shapiro also expressed his sorrow, calling it a “tragic and devastating day for York County and the entire commonwealth of Pennsylvania.”

The scene of the incident remains active and is being supported by agents from the ATF Harrisburg Field Office and the FBI. FBI Director Kash Patel offered prayers for the officers, their families, and the entire York County community.

The incident was reported to 911 shortly after 2 p.m. on Wednesday, prompting a swift response from multiple police and emergency medical service units. Witnesses described a harrowing scene, with one resident, Dave Miller, recounting hearing multiple gunshots after officers approached a barn area on a farm.

All schools in the Spring Grove Area School District were initially placed on lockdown as a precaution, but the situation has since been resolved, with no involvement of any schools or students in the incident.

As the investigation continues, authorities are committed to conducting a thorough and comprehensive inquiry into the matter. This is an evolving story, and updates will be provided as more information becomes available.
