Disney Stock Will ‘Go Down’ if ABC Cancels Jimmy Kimmel
Longtime Marvel star Mark Ruffalo has recently expressed his thoughts on ABC’s decision to pull Jimmy Kimmel off the air. In a post on Threads, Ruffalo shared a report stating that Disney’s stock dropped by 7% after ABC pre-empted “Jimmy Kimmel Live!” He emphasized that Disney would face even greater repercussions if they were to cancel Kimmel’s show, stating, “It’s going to go down a lot further if they cancel his show. Disney does not want to be the ones that broke America.”
As a prominent figure in Disney’s Marvel universe, Ruffalo’s support for Kimmel could hold significant weight as negotiations continue between the late-night host and the media giant. Ruffalo first appeared as Bruce Banner, also known as The Hulk, in 2012’s “The Avengers” and has since reprised the role in multiple films and TV shows within the Marvel franchise.
Ruffalo is not alone in defending Kimmel. Comedian Wanda Sykes, who was scheduled to appear on “Jimmy Kimmel Live!” before the show was canceled, shared a video on Instagram criticizing the Trump administration and showing her support for Kimmel. Similarly, Conan O’Brien voiced his concern over the suspension of Kimmel and other late-night hosts for criticizing the administration, calling it a violation of freedom of speech.
The controversy surrounding Kimmel began when ABC pulled his show off the schedule indefinitely following objections from Nexstar Media, one of the nation’s largest TV station owners. The company took issue with Kimmel’s comments on the death of conservative activist Charlie Kirk, prompting them to pre-empt airings of the program.
The outpouring of support for Kimmel from industry peers like Ruffalo, Sykes, and O’Brien highlights the importance of upholding freedom of speech and the role of late-night hosts in providing commentary on current events. As negotiations continue between Kimmel and ABC, the future of “Jimmy Kimmel Live!” remains uncertain, but the support from fellow entertainers may sway the outcome in Kimmel’s favor.
