Florida high school football coach Jamir Clarke accused of brawling with three players during practice
A Florida high school football coach, Jamir Clarke, has found himself in hot water after allegedly getting into a physical altercation with three students during practice at Blanche Ely High School. The incident, which led to Clarke’s arrest, reportedly stemmed from a confrontation with a student who had posted negative comments online about someone known to the coach.
According to reports from Broward Sheriff’s Office, Clarke, who stands at 6-foot-7 and weighs 400 pounds, called the student a derogatory term before striking them. The situation escalated as the student’s teammates intervened, leading to a brawl where Clarke allegedly hit multiple students. One student-athlete attempting to break up the fight was also struck by the coach.
Law enforcement was called to the school, and upon entering the weightlifting room where the altercation occurred, they found Clarke sitting in the dark with a cracked mirror as evidence of the scuffle. The school district promptly notified parents that Clarke had been relieved of his coaching duties at the school.
Clarke now faces four counts of child abuse without great bodily harm and was booked into Broward County Main Jail on a $30,000 bond. Despite claiming self-defense, prosecutors argued that Clarke’s size and failure to de-escalate the situation posed a risk to the students. Additionally, it was revealed that Clarke had been involved in a similar incident at Monarch High School, where he worked as a campus monitor.
Footage from the previous incident at Monarch High School showed Clarke physically assaulting a student in a bathroom, raising concerns about his behavior towards students. The school district stated that Clarke would be reassigned pending further review, with the possibility of termination.
The incidents involving Clarke have sparked outrage among parents and students, with many expressing shock and disappointment at his actions. One parent criticized Clarke for his lack of self-control and called for accountability for his behavior towards students. If convicted, Clarke could face up to five years in prison for each of the four counts of child abuse.
The safety and well-being of students remain a top priority for the school district, and they are committed to taking appropriate action to address the incidents involving Clarke. Parents and students have called for accountability and a zero-tolerance policy for violence towards students, emphasizing the importance of a safe and respectful learning environment.
