Director Ima Iduozee Talks Series ‘Sneakermania,’ Debuts Trailer
The sneaker culture is alive and well in the upcoming Finnish series “Sneakermania,” set to premiere on YLE in February 2026. The show follows teenage sneakerhead Ola as he strives to become a fashion influencer, with his eyes set on building a following and growing his TikTok channel alongside his friend Bee. However, things take a turn when Ola’s former best friend Jay steals his spotlight, leading to a storyline filled with envy and moral dilemmas.
Director Ima Iduozee describes the series as a mix of lighthearted comedy and moments of tension, focusing on themes of belonging and the desire for acceptance. Social media plays a central role in the characters’ lives, offering a platform for self-expression and creating a personal brand. For Ola, it becomes a tool for gaining recognition and respect in the competitive world of fashion and influencer culture.
Iduozee emphasizes the importance of showcasing diverse stories from Finland beyond the typical Nordic noir and detective dramas. “Sneakermania” offers a glimpse into a generation of young creatives in Helsinki who are bold, self-determined, and unafraid to chase their dreams.
The series explores the global phenomenon of sneaker culture, highlighting how sneakers have become more than just shoes for many young adults. They serve as a form of cultural expression, representing identity, creativity, and community. Mia Ylönen, head of drama at Helsinki-filmi, praises the magnetic lead characters of “Sneakermania” for embodying the spirit of Helsinki in 2025 and capturing themes of ambition, self-expression, and friendship.
Led by first-time headwriter Vilja Keskimäki, the series features music from Finnish artists and collaboration with fashion stylists, designers, dancers, and influencers to authentically depict the world of sneaker culture. While Ola is the driving force of the story, he is supported by a group of like-minded individuals who share his passion for sneakers and creative self-expression.
Ylönen commends director Iduozee for his unique vision and vibrant storytelling, believing him to be a rising star in Finnish cinema. With “Sneakermania,” Helsinki-filmi aims to showcase a fresh perspective on Finnish storytelling and bring a dynamic and contemporary narrative to audiences. As the series gears up for its premiere, audiences can expect a visually striking and emotionally resonant exploration of friendship, ambition, and the pursuit of authenticity in a digital age.
