CNN’s Harry Enten Breaks Down How Trump’s Portland Plan Is A Big ‘Political Loser’
CNN’s top data analyst Harry Enten observed how the majority of Americans are against President Donald Trump’s decision to deploy the National Guard to U.S. cities after his announcement to send troops to Portland, Oregon.
“The polls are clear, Mr. President, you are mistaken,” Enten stated during a segment with CNN’s John Berman.
Enten referenced a recent CBS News/YouGov poll showing that 58% of Americans do not support such deployments to U.S. cities, while 42% are in favor. He also highlighted that 64% of independents are against the deployments.
Oregon and Portland have filed lawsuits against Trump to prevent the deployment of National Guard troops to the city.
Trump recently commented on the situation in Portland via social media, referring to the city as “war ravaged” and claiming the U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement facility was “under siege” during protests against the administration’s immigration policies.
The state’s Democratic senators criticized Trump for what they see as an “authoritarian takeover” of the city.
When asked about the impact of Trump deploying National Guard troops to Los Angeles on his polling, Enten highlighted data showing a four-point decrease in the president’s net approval rating overall. His net approval rating on immigration also dropped by seven points.
“There were noticeable political consequences for the president, and they were not positive,” Enten remarked.
Enten later mentioned that ICE’s popularity rating has declined from zero points in Trump’s first term to -14 in his second term.
He referenced Pew Research Center findings where ICE was ranked 15th out of 16 federal agencies in terms of popularity among Americans.
“The president may view this as a politically advantageous move, but the data tells a different story. It’s actually a political setback,” he concluded.
