Don’t ‘Do Anything Too Mean’ or FCC Will Attack

The 51st season of Saturday Night Live kicked off with a hilarious cold open featuring Colin Jost as Pete Hegseth. Jost’s portrayal had him lamenting that “Our military is gay as hell!” while also pointing out that it has “never been fatter.” This was a nod to his real-life meeting with military generals, where he demanded a military filled with “hot, shredded, hairless men that are definitely not gay.”

The skit took a meta turn when James Austin Johnson’s Trump interrupted to say he was “just keeping my eye on SNL” and making sure they didn’t say anything too mean about him. Trump then poked fun at SNL’s recent cast changes, mentioning the 17 new cast members and joking about Jost doing the cold open.

Trump also couldn’t resist taking a jab at Jost, suggesting he should be at the Riyadh Comedy Festival with his friends. Jost sheepishly admitted he didn’t get an invite. The skit continued with Trump mentioning his FCC attack dog Brendan Carr, who would take care of anyone who got out of control. Mikey Day made a cameo as Carr, correcting Trump on the pronunciation of his name.

The segment ended with Trump ominously reminding everyone that “Daddy’s watching.” The sketch was a humorous take on current events and the dynamics of the show. Watch the full sketch below.

Overall, the cold open was a clever and witty start to SNL’s 51st season, setting the tone for what promises to be an entertaining ride. Stay tuned for more laughs and satirical commentary from the iconic late-night show.
