2 killed, 12 injured, as gunfire erupts on the streets of Alabama’s state capital
A tragic incident unfolded in downtown Montgomery, Alabama, in the early hours of Sunday morning, leaving at least 14 people shot, with two fatalities, as confirmed by the local police department.
The shooting took place at the intersection of Bibbs and Commerce streets, just a short distance from the Alabama State Capitol building. Among the victims were two juveniles, one of whom sustained life-threatening injuries.
Law enforcement officers responded to reports of gunfire at the location shortly after midnight. Upon their arrival, they discovered multiple individuals with gunshot wounds.
Tragically, an adult male and a female succumbed to their injuries at the scene. Their identities have not been disclosed pending notification of their families. Additionally, three other individuals, including one of the juvenile victims, were rushed to hospitals with life-threatening injuries.
The rest of the wounded individuals were hospitalized with injuries that were not considered life-threatening, according to the authorities.
As of now, no arrests have been made in connection with the shooting, and the motive behind the incident remains under investigation. Detectives are actively interviewing witnesses and analyzing surveillance footage to identify possible suspects.
The Montgomery Police Department is urging anyone with information regarding the shooting to come forward and assist in the ongoing investigation.
