Dogs kill 2-year-old boy at Georgia daycare center
Tragedy Strikes as Toddler Attacked by Rottweilers at Unlicensed Daycare in Valdosta
VALDOSTA, Ga. (AP) — A 2-year-old boy in Valdosta, Georgia, tragically lost his life after being attacked by two Rottweiler dogs at an unlicensed daycare center while the owner was reportedly napping. Stacy Wheeler Cobb, the 48-year-old daycare owner, has been charged with second-degree murder and second-degree cruelty to children in connection with the incident.
The Valdosta Police Department revealed that Cobb left the child unattended for over two hours on Saturday, leading to the devastating attack. The mother of the child, Adrianna Jones, recounted in a GoFundMe post that surveillance footage showed the toddler entering the backyard and opening the kennel where the Rottweilers were kept. The dogs then viciously attacked the child, resulting in his untimely death before authorities arrived on the scene.
According to reports, the 2-year-old victim, identified as Kaimir Jones, was the only child under Cobb’s care at the time of the incident, although the daycare typically accommodates up to 10 children. Cobb is currently in custody at Lowndes County Jail, and it remains unclear if she has legal representation.
Adrianna Jones expressed her heartbreak and shock over the tragic loss of her son, emphasizing how Cobb’s negligence led to the devastating outcome. The mother noted that Cobb had failed to respond to her messages for several hours, prompting her to leave work early and discover the horrific scene.
Following the incident, the Rottweilers involved in the attack, along with another dog on the premises, were taken into custody by Lowndes County Animal Control. The Valdosta Police Department stated that the investigation is ongoing, with the possibility of additional charges being filed.
Valdosta Police Chief Leslie Manahan condemned the incident as a “horrible and tragic event” that could have been prevented through proper supervision and care. The community mourns the loss of the young child and seeks justice for the heartbreaking incident.
