Hit Brit Comedy Set for Return
The beloved British teen comedy series, “The Inbetweeners,” is gearing up for a much-anticipated comeback. Banijay UK and Fudge Park Productions, the company founded by show creators Iain Morris and Damon Beesley, have come to an agreement that signals the return of this iconic comedy title. While details about the format and platform of the revival are still under wraps, Morris and Beesley have hinted that it will involve the original characters from the series.
The original run of “The Inbetweeners,” which aired on E4 in the U.K. from 2008 to 2019, followed the hilarious misadventures of four friends – Will MacKenzie, Simon Cooper, Neil Sutherland, and Jay Cartwright – as they navigated the challenges of school life, friendship, and failed romantic encounters at Rudge Park Comprehensive. The show was a refreshing take on adolescence, showcasing the awkward and often messy reality of growing up.
During its three-season run, “The Inbetweeners” broke ratings records and received multiple awards. The success of the series led to the release of two hit movies in 2011 and 2014, both of which shattered box office records for U.K. comedies.
With the new partnership between Fudge Park and Banijay, the rights to “The Inbetweeners” have been unlocked for a potential return across various platforms, including film, TV, and stage. Fans can expect exciting developments as discussions are underway to bring back the beloved comedy for both existing and new audiences.
Jonathan Blyth, managing director of Fudge Park, expressed his excitement about the partnership, stating, “This is a wonderful moment for fans, there are exciting conversations afoot and more news to follow.” Patrick Holland, CEO of Banijay UK, also shared his enthusiasm for the project, highlighting the infectious creative vision of Morris and Beesley.
Since the conclusion of “The Inbetweeners,” Morris and Beesley have been involved in various projects, individually and collaboratively. Their creative endeavors have ranged from comedy films like “The Festival” to TV series like “The First Team” and “White Gold.” Morris has also ventured into directing, working on projects like “Next Goal Wins” and “My Oxford Year.”
As discussions continue and plans take shape for the return of “The Inbetweeners,” fans can look forward to more hilariously cringe-worthy moments from their favorite group of friends. Stay tuned for updates on this highly-anticipated revival of one of Britain’s most iconic comedies.
