Good Samaritan Stabbed Trying to Stop Phone Thief Near Columbus Circle
Over the weekend, a heroic act took a dangerous turn when a good Samaritan was stabbed for trying to stop a thief from stealing a woman’s cell phone just steps from Columbus Circle, according to police reports.
The violent incident occurred at West 58th Street and Ninth Avenue in Hell’s Kitchen around 12:50 a.m. on Saturday. The thief, dressed in all black, grabbed the 35-year-old woman’s phone, prompting the 39-year-old do-gooder to intervene and try to retrieve the stolen device from the thief.
Unfortunately, the thief turned violent and stabbed the Samaritan in the stomach with an unknown object before fleeing the scene on foot. The injured man was rushed to Weill Cornell Medical Center where he underwent surgery and is currently in stable condition.
The victim of the phone theft, who remains unnamed, is still reeling from the traumatic experience, as confirmed by her mother. She described the incident as “just crazy” and expressed relief that her daughter was physically unharmed.

As of Monday, the assailant responsible for the theft and stabbing had not been apprehended by authorities. The victim’s mother expressed gratitude for the Samaritan’s selfless act of bravery, despite the unfortunate outcome.
