Alleged LA Palisades arsonist Jonathan Rinderknecht hit with 2 felonies in federal grand jury indictment
A Florida man, Jonathan Rinderknecht, has been indicted by a federal grand jury for allegedly starting the devastating Palisades Fire in Los Angeles. The fire, which resulted in the destruction of 7,000 homes and businesses and caused $150 billion in damages, has led to Rinderknecht facing three new charges, including two felonies, as announced by the Department of Justice.
The indictment includes charges of arson affecting property used in interstate commerce, destruction of property by means of fire, and a count of timber set afire. Rinderknecht is accused of intentionally setting a brush fire on the hills overlooking LA on New Year’s Day, which was partially contained by firefighters. However, the fire reignited and escalated into the Palisades Fire on Jan. 7, causing widespread devastation.
If convicted, Rinderknecht could face a minimum of five years in prison and up to 45 years in federal prison. He is expected to appear in Los Angeles federal court in the coming weeks to face these charges.
The impact of the Palisades Fire has been significant, with the loss of lives and extensive property damage. The investigation and legal proceedings surrounding Rinderknecht’s alleged actions will continue as authorities seek justice for the victims and accountability for the devastation caused by the fire.
