A Surprise Free Gemini Upgrade is Rolling Out on More Google TV Devices
Google’s Gemini Assistant Unexpectedly Appears on Sony Bravia TVs
If you’ve been eagerly anticipating the arrival of Gemini on Google TVs, you’ll be pleased to hear that the upgrade has made an unexpected appearance on Sony Bravia devices.
Google had been promising to replace the Assistant feature with the more advanced Gemini for some time now, with a vague 2025 release date in sight. In early September, the upgrade surprised TCL QM9K TV owners, as Gemini unexpectedly arrived on TCL’s flagship mini-LED TVs. Google also confirmed to TechRadar that Gemini would be launching on TCL’s QM7K, QM8K, and X11K models, as well as the 2025 Hisense U8, U7, and UX models.
Surprisingly, the list of upgraded devices did not initially include Sony, so the appearance of the Gemini icon on Bravia TVs caught many owners by surprise. According to a screenshot shared on Reddit, Gemini popped up after a Sony Bravia TV owner updated the Google TV Home app from the Play Store.
The Gemini upgrade enhances voice command communication, primarily focusing on improving TV search capabilities. Users can also ask the assistant questions on various topics, including daily news updates. Additionally, users have the option to personalize the assistant’s voice from a selection of 10 options, each named after flowers like Oxalis, Fern, and Croton – aligning with the choices available on Google’s Nest smart speakers. This move by Google aims to standardize the user experience across its smart home devices.
The appearance of Gemini on Sony Bravia TVs hints at a potential wider rollout on a larger scale in the near future. Stay tuned for more updates on Gemini’s expansion to more devices.
