NYC neighborhoods where most sex offenders live — is yours one of them?

Hope and East Tremont in the Bronx, has 130 offenders.

  • 10456, which covers parts of Morrisania and Melrose in the Bronx, has 128 offenders.
  • Residents can search for sex offenders by name, address or zip code on the New York State Sex Offender Registry website to see who is living in their neighborhood.

As the fight continues to close the legal loophole that allows sex offenders to live near schools and playgrounds, parents like Ramirez and Colon are left feeling vulnerable. They urge lawmakers to prioritize the safety of children and pass legislation to keep predators away from places where children congregate.

For now, they keep a closer eye on their children at the playground and school, knowing that there are dangerous individuals living just a stone’s throw away.

As the debate over the residency restrictions for sex offenders continues, the safety and well-being of children must remain a top priority for lawmakers and the community as a whole.

Until stricter laws are in place to protect children from predators like Paul Brown and Victor Guardiola, parents must remain vigilant and aware of who is living in their neighborhood. The safety of our children is paramount, and we must do everything in our power to ensure they are protected from harm.

Hope and Tremont in the Bronx is a neighborhood that has been in the spotlight recently due to the high number of registered sex offenders residing in the area. With a total of 129 offenders, the community has raised concerns among residents and local officials.

In comparison, the neighboring area of 11208, which includes parts of Brooklyn’s East New York and Cyprus Hills, is home to 128 offenders. This concentration of offenders in specific neighborhoods has sparked a debate about the distribution of sex offenders across the city.

Melinda Perkins, the district manager for Brooklyn Community Board 5, expressed her dismay at the high number of offenders in East New York. She criticized city agencies for allowing the neighborhood to become “oversaturated” with sex offenders compared to other areas. Perkins emphasized the need for a more equitable distribution of facilities and services for sex offenders to prevent certain communities from bearing a disproportionate burden.

Interestingly, even affluent neighborhoods in Brooklyn have a significant number of level 2 and 3 sex offenders. For example, Greenpoint in Brooklyn’s 11222 zip code is home to 45 offenders, with the majority residing in Home-Life Services, a homeless shelter complex. Brooklyn Heights (11201), Williamsburg (11211), and Boerum Hill (11217) also have a notable presence of sex offenders. In Manhattan, Kips Bay (10010) is home to 13 offenders.

Republican mayoral candidate Curtis Sliwa has called for stricter measures to monitor and restrict the activities of sex offenders. He advocates for the use of technology like ankle bracelets to track their movements and prevent them from entering restricted areas such as playgrounds and schools. Sliwa emphasizes the importance of protecting children from potential harm posed by sex offenders.

It is important to note that level 1 sex offenders, who are considered the least likely to reoffend, are not included in the state’s public registry. However, as of October 1st, there were 2,849 level 1 offenders residing across the five boroughs, according to data from the state Division of Criminal Justice Services.

The issue of sex offenders in neighborhoods like Hope and Tremont highlights the need for comprehensive strategies to address the safety and well-being of communities. By implementing effective monitoring and prevention measures, city officials can work towards creating safer environments for all residents.
