Michigan dad allegedly threatened to shoot up elementary school after his kid wasn’t given a treat at snack time
A disturbing incident unfolded at Pleasantview Elementary School in Eastpointe, Michigan, when a father, David Scott Jr., allegedly made threats to shoot up the school after his child was not given a snack during snack time. The 43-year-old man was arrested after his violent outburst in front of parents, students, and staff.
According to the authorities, Scott confronted his child’s first-grade teacher during dismissal and threatened to “air the place out” the following day. This menacing language is commonly understood as a threat of mass violence or a shooting. It was revealed that no students in the class were given a snack that day, as the new teacher had eliminated the practice of snack time after recess for the entire class.
A subsequent search of Scott’s home led to the discovery of multiple rounds of ammunition. In response to the incident, additional police presence was deployed to the school to enhance security measures. Students were also instructed to remain indoors during recess while the suspect was in custody.
Macomb County Prosecutor Peter J. Lucido condemned the threatening behavior, emphasizing that violence against a school or its staff is inexcusable, especially over such a trivial matter as a snack. Scott was charged with ammunition possession by a prohibited person, intentional threat to commit an act of violence against a school, school employees, or students, and disorderly conduct. He was identified as a fourth-offense habitual offender, indicating previous convictions for similar offenses.
During his arraignment, Scott’s bond was set at $150,000, and he was ordered to undergo a mental health evaluation. If released, he will be required to wear an ankle monitor and refrain from contacting the school or its employees. His next court appearance is scheduled for November 5th.
The incident serves as a stark reminder of the importance of addressing and preventing threats of violence in educational settings. Authorities are committed to ensuring the safety of students, teachers, and the community by taking all threats seriously and pursuing appropriate legal action.
