Honda recalls more than 406,000 vehicles because wheels can come off
Honda Recalls Over 400,000 Vehicles Due to Wheel Detachment Risk
Honda has issued a recall for 406,290 vehicles due to a manufacturing defect that could potentially lead to the wheels detaching while driving, posing a serious safety risk for drivers and passengers.
The affected vehicles are Civic models from the years 2016 to 2021, as announced in a recall notice by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) on November 6th. The issue stems from certain accessory aluminum wheels that may have an incorrect steel bolt seat, causing the lug nuts to loosen over time and increasing the likelihood of the wheel detaching.
According to a notice sent to Honda dealers, it is expected that only a small number of vehicles will require wheel replacement. As part of the recall, Honda dealers will inspect the wheels of the affected vehicles and replace hubs and wheels if necessary, all at no cost to the owners.
Owners of the recalled vehicles will receive notification letters by December 9th. Alternatively, they can contact Honda’s customer service at 1-888-234-2138 for more information. The recall number for this issue is MMZ.
How to Check if Your Vehicle is Affected
If you own a Honda Civic manufactured between 2016 and 2021, it is important to check if your vehicle is part of the recall. You can do this by looking up your vehicle identification number (VIN) on the NHTSA website or contacting your nearest Honda dealership for assistance.
Ensuring Safety on the Road

By proactively addressing this manufacturing defect and issuing a recall, Honda aims to prevent any potential accidents or injuries caused by wheel detachment. It is crucial for all affected vehicle owners to take action promptly and have their wheels inspected and replaced if necessary.
