Warren Buffett’s investor letter may be his last as Berkshire Hathaway’s CEO: “I’m ‘going quiet.'”

Warren Buffett, the legendary investor and CEO of Berkshire Hathaway, recently delivered a heartfelt letter to investors that is likely his last official message before stepping down as chairman and CEO of the multinational conglomerate. In the letter, Buffett expressed his intention to “go quiet” and step away from writing annual reports and speaking at shareholder meetings.

Known for his insightful and plainspoken wisdom, Buffett’s letters to shareholders have always been highly anticipated by investors. In his latest eight-page message, Buffett reflected on his childhood in Omaha, Nebraska, the people who influenced his career, and the values that have guided him throughout his life. Despite his age of 95, Buffett mentioned that he still feels good and continues to work at the office five days a week surrounded by wonderful people.

In terms of the future of Berkshire Hathaway, Buffett announced that over 2.7 million shares will be distributed among four family foundations, including The Susan Thompson Buffett Foundation and The Sherwood Foundation. He also revealed that Greg Abel, the current vice chair of Berkshire Hathaway’s board of directors, will succeed him as CEO and chairman starting in 2026.

Buffett’s decision to appoint Abel as his successor comes after decades of transforming Berkshire Hathaway from a textile manufacturer into one of the world’s leading investment operations. Under his leadership, the company has become the 9th largest U.S. company by market capitalization, with Buffett himself ranking among the world’s richest individuals with a net worth exceeding $150 billion.

In his final words of wisdom to shareholders, Buffett emphasized the importance of learning from past mistakes, practicing kindness, and choosing heroes to emulate. He encouraged individuals to focus on personal growth and improvement, highlighting the value of compassion and humility in both business and life.

As Buffett prepares to pass the torch to Greg Abel and step away from his role at Berkshire Hathaway, his legacy as a successful investor and philanthropist will continue to inspire generations to come. The annual Thanksgiving message to shareholders will remain a tradition, allowing Buffett to stay connected with the special group of individuals who have supported him throughout his remarkable career.
