RFK Jr.’s Brother Calls Him A ‘Betrayal’ To Father’s Legacy
The younger brother of Health and Human Services Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr. criticized him for aligning with President Donald Trump during the GOP’s cuts to food assistance programs that millions of Americans rely on, labeling it a “betrayal” of their father’s legacy, Senator Robert F. Kennedy Sr.
In an op-ed published in The Boston Globe, Maxwell Taylor Kennedy expressed uncertainty about what their father would have thought but emphasized his deep concern for addressing poverty and hunger in the wealthiest nation on earth.
He highlighted the Trump administration’s treatment of America’s most vulnerable citizens during the government shutdown, particularly the risk of millions losing Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program benefits in November.
Maxwell Taylor Kennedy condemned the actions of his brother, Robert F. Kennedy Jr., who serves as Trump’s health and human services secretary, for supporting policies that go against their father’s values of compassion and social justice.
He also mentioned that other family members, like Kerry Kennedy, have voiced their disagreements with RFK Jr.’s controversial statements and positions within the administration.
Tatiana Schlossberg, another cousin of RFK Jr., criticized the cuts to federal research funding that could impact cancer patients, highlighting the personal impact of such decisions.
Despite RFK Jr.’s efforts to advocate for certain changes, his family members remain divided on his approach and alignment with the Trump administration.
In his op-ed, Maxwell Taylor Kennedy condemned the GOP’s prioritization of tax cuts over funding for essential programs like SNAP, emphasizing the moral responsibility of public health officials to address hunger and poverty.
He concluded by asserting that denying food assistance to the most vulnerable is contrary to the principles of a healthy society, calling for a reevaluation of priorities and a return to values of compassion and equality.
