Jimmy Kimmel reads New York Post cover story about himself for Vanity Fair photoshoot
Jimmy Kimmel, known for his late-night show, was suspended in September due to controversial comments about Charlie Kirk’s killer. However, he is making a comeback and is featured in next month’s Vanity Fair issue holding a copy of The New York Post that announced his return.
In the photograph, Kimmel is seen holding the Sept. 23 edition of The New York Post, with the headline “What a joke!” while sitting at the El Capitan Theatre in Los Angeles where his show is filmed.
The Post’s front-page story revealed that Kimmel would be returning to ABC, although some local affiliate stations refused to air his show after he declined to apologize for his remarks. Sources mentioned that Kimmel negotiated directly with Disney executives for his return and was planning to address the controversy in his monologue without issuing a formal apology.
Kimmel’s appearance in Vanity Fair’s upcoming article about Hollywood’s current state signifies his influence in the industry. The issue is set to be released on Dec. 2 and features various personalities in Hollywood.
The article includes vignettes about Hollywood figures like Paramount Skydance boss David Ellison, celebrity stylist Law Roach, and Los Angeles Philharmonic conductor Gustavo Dudamel.
Kimmel’s suspension and subsequent return to the airwaves sparked a debate on censorship and free speech. Despite facing criticism, Kimmel’s supporters, including celebrities and former President Obama, stood by him during the controversy.
During his suspension, over 1.7 million users canceled their subscriptions to Disney-owned services like Disney+, Hulu, and ESPN in solidarity with Kimmel.
