Jimmy Kimmel Cites Contract Extension, Chides Trump for Kennedy Center

Jimmy Kimmel made headlines on Monday night as he announced his contract extension with Disney on his show, “Jimmy Kimmel Live.” However, amidst the celebratory news, Kimmel couldn’t resist taking a jab at President Donald Trump for his hosting performance at Sunday’s Kennedy Center Honors.

During a Saturday event leading up to the Kennedy Center Honors, Trump publicly criticized Kimmel, calling him a “horrible” TV host. Kimmel, known for his quick wit, fired back during his monologue on Monday night.

“I thought we were friends. I’m starting to think he’s got a crush on me,” Kimmel joked, referencing Trump’s busy weekend schedule that included hosting the Kennedy Center Honors and attending the FIFA World Cup 2026 Draw in D.C.

Kimmel didn’t hold back in his critique of Trump’s hosting skills, pointing out that no president had ever hosted the Kennedy Center Honors before. He humorously added, “We’ve also never had Neil Patrick Harris order a military strike on a fishing boat before.”

In a surprising turn of events, Kimmel also announced his contract extension with Disney through May 2027 on his show. He jokingly mentioned that he decided to spend less time with his family, prompting laughter from the audience at the El Capitan Theatre in Hollywood.

“I’m honored and humbled to be a part of your routine. Whether it’s in bed at night, or during your morning toilet time,” Kimmel said, expressing his gratitude to his viewers and team.

The renewal of Kimmel’s contract with Disney came as a surprise to many, as his current deal was set to expire in 2026. Kimmel confirmed the news on Instagram, where he humorously referred to himself as having “no talent” for yet another year.

Kimmel’s relationship with Trump has been rocky, with the president often attacking him on social media. The late-night host isn’t immune to controversy either, as ABC temporarily pulled his show off the air in September following complaints about his on-air comments.

Despite the ups and downs, Kimmel remains a prominent figure in late-night television, entertaining audiences with his sharp humor and candid interviews. His contract extension with Disney ensures that fans can continue to enjoy his unique brand of comedy for years to come.
