Insider Drains $345,014 From Accounts Within Weeks of Joining US Lender – Here’s How

Former Employee Sentenced to Prison for Bank Fraud Scheme

A former employee at a US lender has been sentenced to more than two years in prison for her role in a bank fraud scheme that resulted in the theft of hundreds of thousands of dollars from customers’ accounts.

The Attorney’s Office for the Western District of Washington revealed that Tacoma resident Aneicia Ford collaborated with accomplices to steal a total of $345,014 from accounts at a credit union.

Court documents indicate that Ford was employed at the credit union from May to August 2022, working as a home-based call center employee assisting customers with their account inquiries.

It was revealed that shortly after starting her job, Ford began analyzing customer accounts to identify potential targets for the fraudulent scheme. She then shared sensitive financial details, such as available funds and personal information, with 23-year-old Dangelo Roberts and his associates.

The group used this stolen information to create fake IDs, obtain debit cards in the victims’ names, and withdraw up to $25,000 in cash. They also utilized unauthorized access to transfer funds between accounts and monitor balances.

The credit union incurred significant losses as a result of the fraudulent activities and had to compensate affected customers for their losses.

U.S. District Judge Jamal N. Whitehead handed down a sentence of 30 months in prison to Ford, emphasizing the serious impact of her actions on the victims.

He stated, “What you did was serious… Your employer trusted you with access to customers’ more personal information… Real people suffered real harm from the actions that you took.”

It is evident that Ford’s involvement in the conspiracy had far-reaching consequences, affecting the lives of innocent individuals who fell victim to the fraudulent scheme.

As the case comes to a close, it serves as a stark reminder of the importance of safeguarding sensitive financial information and the severe repercussions that can result from breaches of trust.
